Whitening

Statistics reveal that Americans place a high value on their smile.  According to an American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry national survey:

  • Virtually all adults (99.7%) believe a smile is an important social asset.
  • 96% of adults believe an attractive smile makes a person more appealing to members of the opposite sex.
  • Three-quarters (74%) of adults feel an unattractive smile can hurt a person's chances for career success.
  • And when respondents were asked, "What would you most like to improve about your smile?"  The most common response was: Whiter and Brighter Teeth.

If you are not happy with your smile, teeth whitening may provide a safe, conservative, and quick solution!

Teeth whitening Can Help:

  • Lighten coffee-stained teeth.
  • Remove cigarette and tobacco discolorations.
  • Correct yellowing in teeth due to aging.

Many feel over-whelmed when they view all of the products marketed to whiten teeth.  Many wonder, "What is the difference?"

In-Office Power Teeth Whitening

In-office whitening procedures are usually picked for convenience.  In-office whitening is accomplished in one visit and allows for fast, immeadiate results.  A teeth whitening gel containing a high concentration of hydrogen peroxide gel is applied to teeth accompanined by an ultra-violet light which accelerates the process.  Many times, home-whitening trays are fabricated for maintenance and to allow for further whitening if desired.  We offer Zoom (see the Zoom pull-down menu for more information or www.zoomnow.com).

Home Whitening Systems

Home whitening when done correctly allows for the same whitening results that can be achieved with in-office procedures.  However, home whiteining is almost always more economical.  In this type of whitening, a patient wears a custom-fitted mouth tray containing a teeth-whitening gel for a few hours each day or night.  Custom-fitted trays offer increased comfort and prevent gel from leaking on to the gums causing irritation. The trays can be adjusted to lighten individual teeth.  The average patient will wear trays for one to two weeks.  These trays can be worn during the day for an hour at a time or overnight depending on the gel offered.

Q : Is teeth whitening bad for patient's enamel?

A : There is no permanent damage caused to the enamel or any other tooth structures by tooth whitening.

Q : Does teeth whitening cause permanent teeth sensitivity?

A : Sensitivity from teeth whitening is always transient.  That means if there is any sensitivity caused by the whitening, it goes away within one to two days after the cessation of bleaching, and the patient returns to the state of sensitivity that they had before they started the whitening process.

All of our team has whitened and is able to help you pick what type of whitening would best fit your needs.
